Northern Beaches gardens have a harder time of it than most. Salt carries a long way off the water, the afternoon southerly knocks soft growth about, and the soil runs sandy, so it drains fast and holds very little.
That changes what a garden needs. Mulch matters more because the ground dries out quicker. Plant choice matters more because half the nursery will not cope with the exposure. Hedges earn their keep as windbreaks before they ever look decorative.
Moss Gardens is based on the coast, so this is the ground we know best. We work through the beaches most weeks.
